The 2008 election inspired a lot of hope in people across the country. The tone and feeling of hope that people on both sides of the aisle felt was more palpable and intense than other elections of recent memory. However, the aftermath of the election has left one party searching for its identity and another promising to fulfill the incredibly high hopes of tens of millions of people. The shortcoming of both scenarios is that one party will modify its platform so as only to give itself the best chance of winning again, while the other party's many vague promises will likely result in at least a few specific disappointments.
The alternative as we see it, is not to commit to promoting candidates or parties, but to commit to becoming better citizens by educating ourselves on the foundational issues of our government. This shift in how we approach the political system makes change originate with us, not Washington DC.
As Thomas Jefferson said, "Educate and inform the whole mass of the people... They are the only sure reliance for the preservation of our liberty."

As individual Americans begin to become better educated, better thinkers and better debaters, it will set the stage for more substantive reform. Not reform based on talking points, empty promises and special interest pandering, but consisting of individuals being better stewards of their country - not mindless lackies enabling the bad habits of politicians on both sides of the aisle.
So the call is not a partisan one. It is a call for you to become a better thinker who can better articulate why you support or oppose a particular issue, or even, yes we know this sounds scary, better articulate why you made a compromise on an issue. Because let's be honest, politicians and presidents will come and go, but the lasting backbone of our country is citizens dedicating themselves to learning and seeking to better understand how things work. That's why we exist. To get individuals thinking one person at a time.
